The first week was spent settling in, unpacking, and getting used to bigger city life. Louie's first two treatments went well, and the Mayo staff continue to be amazing. His third treatment was a difficult one, and it knocked him down for a few days. He started feeling better just in time for another treatment Tuesday, which was another tough one. Thursday's treatment went much better, and if they had let him take off what he wanted to, he would have hit below his goal weight then. They wouldn't, though, because they don't know him yet. As it stands, he has 0.4 kg left to lose to hit that goal, and he will probably have to stay under his goal to establish his new "dry weight" for a bit before they will put him on the list. Tomorrow is the last treatment of the second week, so we'll see how close he gets when he is finished with dialysis tomorrow.
I haven't been updating much, because really, nothing much is happening yet. We knew this would be a gamble- to come here to wait and lose the rest of the weight. So that's what we're doing right now...waiting and working on that weight loss. We will go back to the gym when he's well enough on the off-dialysis days to do so, and I found a nice park with a walking trail that I can skate on while he walks. The primary goal is to hit that final weight loss goal and hold, eventually surpassing it, but not at the expense of his health and wellbeing. Anyone who has ever lost weight knows it can sometimes be a slow process, but he is lower now than he was when we left Montana, so that's progress. Baby steps are still steps forward, and that's all that matters. I will update again next week regardless, but hopefully we'll have exciting news by then.
